Last Saturday at The Met, I came across something truly mesmerizing—a shiny silver lavabo set dating back to 1650–1685. The intricate craftsmanship immediately caught my eye, its polished surface reflecting centuries of history.

This set once belonged to Ian Serban Cantacuzino, a grand duke and ruler. What fascinated me most was its story—he intended to gift it to his daughter for her wedding. It’s rare to see an artifact like this in such pristine condition, and I couldn’t help but wonder about the hands that once used it, the ceremonies it witnessed, and the significance it held in that era.
Standing before it, I thought about how objects can carry stories across time. As an artist, I often think about legacy—what we create, what endures, and how something as simple as a lavabo set can hold both personal and historical meaning.

Have you ever been struck by an artwork or historical object in a museum? I’d love to hear about it!
